one-bedroom holiday cottage
Rosedale   The Square   Freshwater Bay
Rosedale is just three minutes' walk from the photography museum at Dimbola; St Agnes church with its thatched roof; the post office; and Orchard's, the village grocer.
There is a selection of paths onto Tennyson Down from Gate Lane, the road leading to the beach at Freshwater Bay and Afton Marsh. In the other direction, Bedbury Lane leads to Farringford, the former home of Alfred, Lord Tennyson. The bus stops for Alum Bay, Freshwater village and the Island capital Newport are just round the corner by St Agnes church.
The ground floor self-catering cottage is at the rear of Rosedale.
Linen, towels, crockery and cutlery are provided for up to four guests.
The sunny living room at Rabbit's Bothie has a double bed-settee, dining area, books, games, DVD player and wide-screen LCD TV with Freeview.

The comfortable bedroom comes furnished with linked twin single beds with separate mattress toppers and duvets. There are two wardrobes, a hair dryer and alarm clock.

The shower-room has a walk-in shower, sink, bidet and toilet with high-level cistern. Hot water for the heating, sinks and shower is provided by a gas boiler upstairs. The new kitchen is equipped with sink, electric cooker, microwave oven, extractor, fridge and freezer. There is a washing machine and a tumble dryer in the utility cupboard. Rabbit’s Bothie has off-road parking for one medium-sized car and covered storage for golf clubs, body boards and bicycles. There are gravel paths and steps, and a small pond, in the garden and an outside cold tap for cleaning hiking boots.

  • Yarmouth is just 30 minutes by ferry from Lymington, Hampshire. Wightlink has off-peak and short break offers. Telephone 0871 376 1000 or visit www.wightlink.co.uk.
  • The number seven bus towards Alum Bay brings you from Yarmouth's quayside to Church Place, Old Freshwater. The taxi rank and travel information office are also right by the ferry terminal.
  • In the 19th century Lord Tennyson and the pioneer photographer Julia Margaret Cameron both lived at Freshwater Bay. The cultural elite were satirised by Virginia Woolf in her play Freshwater.
  • Britain tested its launch rockets for the early communications satellites from the headland above the Needles rocks. And in the same area, Marconi sent his first wireless telegraph transmissions.

The area round Freshwater Bay is officially designated an area of outstanding natural beauty (AONB). Many downs and beaches belong to the National Trust.
We work with our friends and neighbours to balance the needs of the local environment with the needs of everyone who lives here and comes to visit us.
Freshwater Bay is very special.
